![]() From this process I have four overall parent nodes (themes) which each consist of 8-10 smaller nodes and so on. Is this right? I know I should know the answer to this but it's one of those things that nobody seems to say explicitly in a paper (perhaps because they assume everybody knows), and the information I am seeing seems quite vague. I have been following this process: initial coding (creating nodes, adding references to nodes, etc), then condensing them into bigger parent nodes with smaller child nodes and so on. My issue is that at my last supervision my supervisor was shocked at the number of nodes I have and suggested that there was a problem with my analysis. I have experience with thematic analysis but not with NVIvo, so I have been mostly consulting the official guidelines and some youtube videos alongside any papers I've come across using the software. These have all been done and transcribed, and my supervisor requested that I use NVivo to analyse the transcripts. I am a 2nd year PhD student in the UK, and part of my research has utilised focus groups and interviews.
